SPiDCOM inside HGI
The Home Gateway Initiative is an open forum launched by Telcos in December 2004 with the aim to release specifications of the home gateway. In addition to Telcos several manufacturers have joined the alliance. The initiative drives the development of residential gateways supporting the delivery of services.
SPiDCOM actively participates to the efforts of standardization and regulation of Powerline Communication worldwide inside key bodies, including:
ETSI
ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) is a standardization body that has a good experience in the standardization of telecommunication systems for fixed and mobile networks and services, TV broadcasting as well as for information technologies.
SPiDCOM is Vice-Chair of ETSI PLT.
IEEE
Inside P1901 working group, HomePlug AV has joined the family of IEEE global standards. It includes: 802.11 (Wi-Fi), 802.16 (Wimax), 802.15.1 (Bluetooth), 802.15.4 (Zigbee), 802.3 (Ethernet) and now 1901 (Powerline).
Inside P1905.1 Convergent Digital Home Network Working Group, an abstraction layer with common data and control Service Access Point will be defined. It will be used for the heterogeneous home networking technologies described in the following specifications: IEEE 1901, IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.3 and MoCA 1.1.
ITU
ITU (Iternational Telecommunication Union) is the United Nations agency for information and communication technology issues.
SPiDCOM inside research projects:
EconHome is a French research project whose goal is to reduce the power consumption of the home networking devices. It started in January 1st 2011 and will last 30 months.
OMEGA is an Integrating Project co-funded by the European Commission under EU Framework Programme 7. It has run for 39 months from January 2008 to March 2011. OMEGA’s goal has been to develop a user-friendly home network capable of delivering high-bandwidth services and content at a transmission speed of one gigabit per second.
Other initiatives:
Agora du Réseau Domiciliaire is a French initiative gathering industry key stakeholders in order to promote a common vision of home networks. The goal is to enable the development of an industrial framework able to support over time the accessibility of present and future applications & services.
